Fringe Manila 2018
2018
festival identity, art direction
Fringe 2018 is an open access, non curated, uncensored arts and community festival that aims to showcase fresh, daring, and groundbreaking material, highlighting the unique point of view of emerging and established artists from the Philippines and all over the world.
I was invited to develop the 2018 festival identity and key artwork, and collaborated with a Manila-based team of editors, animators and designers who executed the full festival collateral package.
Looking both to the past and to the future, inspired by Art Deco architectural and geographic elements of historic landmarks in the Poblacion district of Makati, World War II era guerrilla currency, and by the broad spectrum of Fringe artists themselves, the 2018 festival branding speaks to the notion of art as currency, the conflicting narratives of progress and power, the cyclical nature of history and the unearthing of the spirit of resistance.
